Michael Konowalski (the guy who lives as a dog) does not, in fact, do so. He is a nutritionist who did a documentary about how fast food is worse for you than eating dog food. He ate dog food for a month while monitored by doctors to prove that point.
The beetle girl wasn't obsessed, and has posted on a reddit page telling everyone how it was all scripted. She did in fact make a few beetle things for an art exhibit, though.
