Silent Witness: Discovery: Part 1 (2017)
Season 20, Episode 3

Back to gore, less focus on story.
3 March 2018
Lucy Chatham is a young teacher with her life ahead of her but her young life is cut short when she is run down, kidnapped and later killed and dumped. Jack and Nikki look into that case while Thomas and DS Steele investigate the discovery of another young woman's body. The discovery of corn flour seems to link the two cases.

For some strange reason I hadn't watched this during its original transmission, so I was very excited to watch it, being a big fan of the show. Overall I was quite disappointed, it's an ok story, but they've regressed and gone for shock factor, it is needlessly grim and overly gruesome, the post mortem was too graphic, and Lucy's corpse looked like a mannequin. It isn't bad, it just lacks any memorable moments. Saskia Reeves is the shining light, a great actress and strong character who dominates each scene. Clarissa gets a few great lines in, but Liz Carr lacks screen time.

Too much emphasis on gore and not enough on story, disappointing after an intriguing start. 6/10
