This Episode Is So Very Important
15 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was so very important for so many reasons. The topic of immigration in this country, in a country of IMMIGRANTS may I add, is too often faceless. You hear arguments from all political parties, you read articles and watch news on the topic daily, DACA & Dreamers have become part of our everyday vocabulary, and all of this makes it faceless. What you saw in this episode was NOT liberal propaganda as another reviewer suggested, as the reviewer correctly pointed out that during the Obama presidency there were large numbers of deportations.

This episode illustrates an area where ethics and the law are unfortunately far from being synonymous. This is how you reach a large number of people- by including these scenarios in a show watched by millions.

What this episode successfully does is show us who the dreamers are and how their lives are being torn apart. The dreamers by definition are students who have spent the majority, if not all, of their lives in the US because they were brought here as infants or children. The dreamers are people who are seeking to better themselves through higher education, and in doing so, they become an asset to this country.

Tonight's episode illustrates how and why our immigration resources are working against us. The immigration agent is given the task to find Dr. Bello to most likely detain her and eventually deport her for a minor traffic infraction. She wasn't driving drunk. She didn't kill anyone or put them in harms way, she has not defrauded the government. She is not trafficking drugs or weapons. So this doctor, a woman who's skills and abilities add value to this country, will very likely pay the ultimate price, being sent to a country she knows nothing about, because of a red light.

Immigration resources should be focused on finding people who are here illegally and have committed federal crimes, crimes that put people in danger, crimes that hurt our communities and in turn our country. How can anyone, no matter your political affiliations, be ok with having immigration practically stalk those who are trying to do the very best for themselves and their families? It's easy as all heck to find a dreamer like Dr. Bello. Why? Because she's not running from anything. The ones that aren't as easy to find? The drug dealers, murderers, gang members etc. So why not use our resources to target them? Why are we targeting people who will become assets to our country? This is why this episode is important, this is why it's necessary for those with a platform to take on politics, this is how you get people to think about our laws and if they are truly working in the best interest of this country.

Well done Greys, well done!
