Currently, I'm in the same room as someone who's watching this movie; I can't change the channel. And, wow. I have thrown up in my mouth at least 10 times in the first 20 minutes. This has all the classic, terrible tropes in a terribly produced movie
1. Orphan protagonist, check
2. Evil stepmother figure, check
3. Nice fatherly figure, checK
4. Light skin as a beauty standard, check
5. Immediate, socially acceptable excitement and shyness at the prospect of a arranged marriage, check
My question is, why does every orphan child in a movie/tv show HAVE to be an angel? Ill mannered, dark sinned girls who don't want to be shipped off to marriage deserve love too! Poonam (orphan protagonist) should have been at least a little bitter. The aunt (evil stepmother figure) ignored her for YEARS, anger and resentment is normal at that point. I don't care if girls should be modest and well behaved, at some point, being so passive is just abnormal! God, I want to change the channel so badly!!!
