I am Trans-sexual
19 June 2018
I came across this GEM, and was so excited of sharing it with YOU

This is a Malayalam movie - NJAN MARYKUTTY (Meaning - I am Marykutty)

It is a story of a TRANS-SEXUAL

The story is simple. A boy has a girl's psyche and wants to be a girl from his childhood. He wears bangles, anklets, lipstick and saree... He is teased when young and hides his feminine inclinations and sexuality.

Only after he grows up he gets courage (at age of 27 years) to come out openly about his trans-sexual gender identity.

The story is about the struggles, type of discrimination and prejudice she faces in Indian society and work place and how she deals with it with utmost dignity..

The inspiration of the movie came while Director Ranjith found trans people easily integrated with respect in normal society in western countries and he wanted to make such a character based movie in Indian context. The director conceived the story and Jayasurya liked ti so much that he started the company to produced it. Jayasurya has acted brilliantly in portraying the role and I think he will win a few awards.

Earlier in past - this actor - director combo have tried to experiment in their previous collaborations too and came out with decent movies - I have seen one of that.

The movie is getting rave reviews. Kerala being high on literacy it has also opened well at the box office. The timing of the movie is perfect because Government of Kerala too has come out with various schemes to help trans-people

Jayasurya had to undergone amazing transformation as a trans person by imbibing the way they walk, talk, pronounce, act, feel, hide, fear, express, and emote so many emotions differently. It must have been a herculean tasks portrayed brilliantly with so much subtlety. The movie goes into the minds of the trans people with sensitivity and tenderness.

The song that is top of the chart is excellent - Doore Doore..

By the way, on the same date another Malayam movie is released of super star Mammootty - "Peranbu" and the unique clash between these two movies is that the heroine of Peranbu is Anjali Ameer is a transgender in real life. Hats off to Mammootty too for the same. Hats off to Malayalam film industry for taking GIANT strides.

I will go with 7 out of 10 for this well made movie
