I honestly thought this anime (I suppose I have to speak for the real adaption too) was really harsh on the character Kotoko. Regardless of how bright or not bright you are, everyone is different within their own weaknesses and strengths. I just think everyone was only picking at her for that reason and that just makes me damn frustrated by the whole story.
Also i have to add as well, Irie is what you called "boyfriend/husband material", he just doesn't seem to care much about Kotoko or even bothers to help her when she is actually struggling. Honestly out the door he goes if I had a partner like him and that's regardless of looks!
I seriously think strong character development was needed in this anime regardless of unimportant and important characters. However it was quite entertaining and I have to say, I really liked the wedding scene!
