Wow. I just finished watching all 10 episodes in one day. I highly recommend this Netflix original limited series. First, the setting was amazing. It was like a parallel Earth stuck in the retro 70's with future tech. Everyone used dot matrix printers, green screen computer terminals, VCR's, tube TV's yet at the same time they had advanced tech with little bots that cleaned up after dogs and the most advanced AI computer system ever. I had some real laugh out loud moments. The concept of the "Ad Buddy" was hilarious once I realized what was happening. I loved the stores with the "We don't accept ad buddy" logos on their windows. The service where you can hire a fake friend was also both hilarious and poignant. The "Avoid" pod in Emma Stone's dad's back yard was also ingenious since it was again hilarious and poignant at the same time. The filmmakers really spent time on the details of making this a very unique world.

I am filled with superlatives. Emma Stone had an outstanding performance that kept me watching. I loved the fantasy world episodes with her sister. Everything was so bizarre it actually worked. I loved the mixing in the Japanese culture elements.

I thought the series had much to say about our current culture and where it could lead. I usually am not a fan of graphic violence, but there was one scene that I won't give away that had me laughing out loud again. It was so well done and bizarre that I just found myself laughing out loud when it happened.

I will not soon forget this day when I binged all 10 episodes. From the beginning episode up to the closing credits I couldn't stop watching. I haven't seen something as creative as "Maniac" in quite some time.
