Dead and Alive is an example of a very good Quincy episode. It was always a better show before it became an issue of the week series in its later years when it was hijacked by various pressure groups.

The episode starts off with a well staged stunt as a courier van explodes and then crashes into a petrol station causing an even bigger explosion.

The driver was Peter Neilson. We know he has been doing something shady with his employers and he wants out. His boss planned to permanently shut him up.

Quincy finds the badly charred body of Peter and waits for dental records to identify him. Peter's sister later tells Quincy that her brother has phoned him in a distressed state. Peter's mother wants him pronounced dead so she can get hold of an insurance payout.

If this is true then Quincy wonders who is the body they found and where is Peter? The bad guys also need to make sure that Peter remains dead.

What set Quincy apart is you get little medical nuggets as the show goes on. The science as to what happens to a body when there is an explosion. The psychological profile regarding Peter in case he was still alive after the explosion. I loved all this stuff when watching Quincy when I was a kid.

As always Quincy doggedly pursues the truth and find an injured Peter in time. There is always time for some humour as Danny is drafted in for a walk in the country with Sam and Quincy.
