Togashi, you really are a sick person. How can you even create something as fantastic as this. You are lucky that Madhouse adapted it as well as they did.

What is so fascinating with this episode, is that it presents the aspect of "downfall" in a menacing and a tragic way. It shows our main protagonist Gon giving in to his grief and rage, and unleashed a monstrous ability to slaughter his opposition, Pitou. It starts with Gon hoping that Pitou can keep his promise to heal Kite, but instead declares that he will dispose of Gon, by the King's orders. Gon snaps, and sacrifices all of his energy, in order to get a revenge that he doesn't need to get. He ends up annihilating Pitou (lightly phrased), but ends up losing his Nen and nearly dying in the process.

What is so special with this episode, is that it ends Gon's character arc in the series, which is rather unusual in literature. Gon started an adventure in episode 1, and gathered friends, learned new things and experiencing many situations, both happy and sad. However, he plunged too deep into the Hunter world, in hope that he may have found something more, but it got the better off him, leading to his sacrifice. He ended up in deep grief and regret, unleashing a forbidden power out of desperation and rage, which took away everything he has gathered along his adventure. His friends are still alive, and he still accomplished his goal by the end, but it did not come cheap for Gon. He took his proffession too seriously and underestimated the Hunter world, and ended up sacrificing what he had learned after his adventure. His goal is completed, but learned a valuable lesson by the end. Hunter x hunter has basiclly discarded Gon as a protagonist. Togashi, you really are a sick person...

This episode told and taught us so much, and changed the series forever. After seeing the episode, I was so flabbergasted that I ended up brain-dead for many minutes after it. I was happy to see this episode ranked as high as it was in IMDb.

10/10 episode. Togashi is a genius.
