It's For the Birds
31 October 2018
At work, Dagwood's ideas are favored over his boss Mr. Dithers by a client, Mr. Whittle (Harry Cheshire). Mr. Whittle asks for Dagwood to supervise the construction of his new market, one of many things that is giving Mr. Dithers ulcer trouble. As a result, his doctor says he must be hospitalized. Dagwood takes his family to the groundbreaking site where Cookie spots a bird's nest in a tree and stops a bulldozer from plowing it down. Herb takes a picture of Dagwood and Cookie doing so, which makes the front page of newspaper. Dagwood goes to the hospital to swipe Mr. Dithers' newspaper before he can see the story. When he manages to read it he orders Dagwood to start construction in the morning or be fired. Dagwood arrives at the construction site the next morning to find a small group of supporters and the mama bird. He can't bring himself to take the tree down and tells the dozer operator (Leonard Bremen) to work around it. Pressured by the newspaper and public, Mr. Dithers says, "that tree will stand until those little birds are hatched, or unless something unfortunate happens to the eggs." He's also afraid to fire Dagwood for the backlash. Mr. Dithers schemes to be rid of the problem, but Dagwood has a scheme of his own.

This episode is alternatively titled "It's For the Birds" on the recently released complete series DVD set.
