Dr. Spock. Childcare is not elimentary Captain
1 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
There is a great deal of clichéd guff spouted about parenting, especially by alleged 'Guru's' such as Dr. Spock. The 'famed' Child Psychologist, not the Vulcan from Star Trek.

'Experts' paint themselves into 2 Schools regarding Parenting and the different approaches to it. 1st approach: If babies make a fuss some parents pick them up. 2nd approach: Others let them cry. This may seem harsh, but they will learn that they can't shape the world to their will. They have to learn to conform to the world, its a vital life lesson to learn of how be a model human being.

In the film Dr. Maitland expresses the above comment. Dr. Bergen answers "I have three kids, I always pick them up". Dr. Maitland treats John Soames as his Guinea pig to test his pet theories. It can be said that Dr. Bergen is doing likewise, but he treats John Soames as a human being. Whilst Dr. Maitland treats him more, as if he were a primate in a laboratory.

Reading the film synopsis I got totally the wrong idea of the story, it was far better than I had imagined. Terence Stamp is a brilliant actor, and this was the first film that I've seen of his. He is perfect in it, playing his part wonderfully. Nigel Davenport and Peter Vaughan play their roles well, as the Doctors providing the two 'Alternative Positions' or viewpoints.

I'd never heard of this film and only caught it by pure serendipity, on the Talking Pictures channel 81 on Freeview.
