Tatort Meets Groundhog Day - Welcome to Murot's Nightmare!
19 February 2019
Brilliantly conceived Tatort episode, the ultimate case of "deja vu". Following this fast-paced bank robbery/hostage crisis will require the viewer to suspend her or his disbelief, but it is well worth it! The screen play and music score particularly are outstanding!

Kommissar Murot, a specialist in hostage negociations, answers the call to assist with defusing an apparent bank robbery, only to live the early morning hours of the same day over and over again, always to the point of his own violent death. Each exodus is immediately followed by yet another awakening to the sound of his cell phone. With each new attempt to break the nightmare cycle, Murot learns important details about "the case", adding pieces to the puzzle.

Not long into the story, it is suggested that the bank robber suffers from a rare psychosis. This revelation is taken to another level, when Murot himself seems to be similarly afflicted. An earlier plot line of the Murot Tatort series dealt with the Kommissar being treated for a life-threatening brain tumor. The "Murmeltier" episode perfectly fits the frequent delirium of the brain cancer patient. Fans of the Murot Tatorts should not miss this one. It's easily one of the very best episodes in the series!
