Review of Nigel

The Widow: Nigel (2019)
Season 1, Episode 8
8/10
Redemption
10 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This final episode focuses on the theme of justice for the victims of Sankura Flight 19 and retribution for the evil designs of Major General Azikiwe.

On the surface, it appeared as though Georgia sold out Will by giving his address to Judith in exchange for the whereabouts of Adiga. But, apparently, Georgia gave Judith a phony address to throw off the minions of Azikiwe, when they attempt to assassinate Will. But that plot strand was a loose end that required clarification.

Another shortcoming of the final, climactic episode was to introduce a completely extraneous character named Owen at some vague time in the future. Owen shows up at Georgia's cabin in the Welsh highlands, flirts with her, and is rejected after a brief search for Owen's dog named Nigel. The scene made absolutely no sense in the timeframe of the film, and it disrupted the pacing of this final program. Incredibly, the filmmakers gave the final program over to the dog!

Still, there was a good wrap-up in rallying the relatives of the plane crash victims to begin a protest outside the home of the general. Will become noble and gave evidence that led to Judith's arrest, and Azikiwe blew his brains out.

There was a tidy ending with a reunion of Georgia and Adiga in Wales. Adiga will become the adopted daughter of Georgia and have a good home. Overall, the series was very well scripted around the concept of Conrad's "Heart of Darkness." The ending is nothing like that of Conrad's short story. But it succeeded in bringing Georgia quest full circle.
