They tried
23 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I liked what they tried to do, I enjoyed the set-up and I haven't put myself through a lot of found footage horror films, so I really didn't mind any lack of originality in that respect. Were this film executed well, I'd have been really happy with it. Unfortunately I was not happy with it.

There were a few instances where I felt characters were answering questions before the questions were being asked (Gaby!), which made for unnatural and kind of awkward conversation every now and then. Also the mother took me out of it. I'm sure the actress tried, I just found her performance unbelievable. Same for Dylan in the hospital scene, I just didn't buy it.

Dylan spoke another language repeatedly, and what really bugged me is the obvious French accent in it. I don't mind accents, it's just that when this is supposedly a ghost-demon-character speaking its native tongue, I expect it to speak the language in question flawlessly. Dylan also calls "Come here Andrei" a few times and I think they mistranslated... unless that is supposed to be yet another language that happens to be similar (which wouldn't make sense either).

These are all matters of execution and with a great story I might have been able to forgive most -if not all- of that, but unfortunately the character of the ghost didn't make sense to me. Why would a dead person from country X run around at 3 AM? Why would he make gestures over sleeping people? Why does he intentionally cause harm to the meat vessel he is currently occupying? It just doesn't add up to me and as a result the entire thing fell flat.
