A timely crime thriller taking place south of the border involving the death of some braceros (Mexican migrant workers) by some unscrupulous coyotes. George Murphy & Ricardo Montalban represent both sides of the divide trying to track down the players in this racket w/Montalban pretending to be a bracero & Murphy a disgraced immigration worker w/a bunch of stolen work papers to entice the bad guys. Directed by Anthony Mann & shot in beautiful California vistas, this film is also a nail biter where the pendulum swings in equal measures leaving us not knowing who was going to come out on top. Co-starring perennial favorites Howard DaSilva & Charles McGraw, this film should be required viewing for a certain commander-in-chief but who am I kidding? It'll never happen.
