"La hora del baño" is a Spanish 17-minute live action short film from 2014, so this one has its 5th anniversary this year. Writer and director was Eduardo Casanova who is still in his 20s now and was in his early 20s when he made this one. Not exactly the film you would expect from such a young filmmaker. Or exactly the kind of film you would expect? Up to you to decide. It is in Spanish by the way of course, so make sure you got subs if you aren't fluent in the language. I cannot say too much about the cast, maybe Spanish film buffs will recognize them. This is the story of a couple who have just become parents not too long ago and who are clearly breaking under the pressure and constant screaming of the kid. Breaking mentally. The talk about breaking up is still among the more harmless things in this film. And when there is finally silence for a moment (out of nowhere), the two find each other again in terms of their souls and have a bit of a normal talk again about the situation. And find their bodies too as they use the moment of quietness quickly by having raunchy and prettgy graphic sex. That sure came out of nowhere, even if they got other actors for the one very graphic part. But then the crying continues. I would also like to mention the makeup department here. The woman really looks hilariously broken thanks to their good work. The haircut is pure gold too. Compared to that, the man does look really normal overall. So yes it is probably most of all a horror movie, especially with the ending sequence, but still, there is a lot of dark humor to it. The very pink setting overall, not just the room, but also the clothes etc. and it almost feels like a mix between telenovela and horror movie. I liked it. You sure should not expect 100% realism here, otherwise you will be disappointed, but if you manage to appreciate the absurdity and the fact that this film is so insane (including the two characters) that you have no idea where it is heading next, then you are in for a bit of a treat. Admittedly, not the best choice to watch when you are expecting a child yourself. Questions if what is the best solution to deal with the screaming, kill yourself or kill the baby (especially with how Casanove is showing us the baby's cuteness before that final scene), are no issues you may want to wonder about in such a state. I guess there is enougn vomiting already without such mind process anyway. Overall, a film that I enjoyed. I can see why many did not like it judging from the rating here. I don't think they understood it really. It is the exact opposite of a character study of parents not able to deal with their newborn and the stress that comes with it. Very sadistic film and I have a feeling Casanova (kinda fitting name for a film like this) may have a bright future ahead and good to see he moved on to full feature filmmaking by now. I sure am curious about his projects in the next decades. Thumbs up for "Bath Time". Also the "happy" ending fit very well with everythign else before that. Go for it, if you are old enough, but maybe keep your easily offended senior parents away from this one.
