The Ritz Brothers ruin it
28 April 2019
When Alice Faye sings the title song to pay for her spaghetti dinner, you should know the movie won't get any better and turn it off afterwards. Alice is flat broke and irresponsibly gorges at an Italian restaurant knowing she can't pay her bill. Don Ameche hears her sing and thinks she should be on the stage in musical comedies, which he writes for Broadway. Alice balks at his idea; she's a descendant of Edgar Allan Poe and only wants to be a serious playwright. So, to woo her, Don gets his producer, Charles Winninger, to invest in one of Alice's dramas. Can you imagine how upset she'll be when she finds out?

Added in, and completely ruining this movie, are endless musical numbers by the Ritz Brothers and a boring side romance between Don and Gypsy Rose Lee. When I watched this movie, I fast-forwarded every time the trio opened their mouths, and the movie ended up only lasting twenty minutes. While that is a slight exaggeration, they are in far too much of this movie for it to be watched without a remote handy.
