This is a TV/movie trope we are very familiar with: the main characters stuck in a place together, coming to terms with things. However, in order for it to work, the writing has to be impeccable, since the setting relies mainly on dialogue. Unfortunately, writing is this episode's biggest weakness: flat, unimaginative, unrealistic and even cheesy at times. Sad to see this not working out, especially because This is Us indeed has the actors to pull an episode like this off.
