Dunkirk (1958)

The Real Dunkirk

Anyone who has seen the recent Christopher Nolan film of the Dunkirk story should then watch this quite brilliant original version from 1958. If they do they will surely agree this is by far the best narrative of one of WW2's most important events. This film scores so well by telling the whole story before, during and immediately following the Dunkirk episode, brilliantly told and acted by a superb cast, including Richard Attenborough, Bernard Lee and John Mills. The beach scenes using terrific wide angle shots with many many extras as stranded troops were so well done and every human emotiorn is wonderfully extracted by Director Leslie Norman. Another of those fine 1950's WW2 movies which were done so well and seriously put the modern version in its place.
