you're lost, little girl

"Une femme a passé" is a nice surprise from an unknown director to me, René Jayet, who seems to have directed "popular" movies. But this first movie is a pure gem from 1928, telling the story of la Concha, a beautiful but lost woman changing quickly her lovers with no purpose. All the casting is extraordinary, from Suzanne Talba with her melancolic face and erotic glances to Camille Bardou, the bearded old timer owner of the barge, and to Jean Gerrard, the young handsome adopted son of the old timer and next victim of la Concha. The direction is very precise and realistic with few effects, the music score is haunting. I just regret the movie is not much longer, just one hour, with more barge scenes. Beware of the femme fatale.

There's still another barge movie sleeping on the production' shelves, "les Amants de Bras Mort" directed by Marcel Pagliero. This movie is not lost, just sleeping and resting, hoping one day we'll discover another french gem.
