Into the Dark: All That We Destroy (2019)
Season 1, Episode 8

BLACK MIRROR for idiots

I didn't think it possible, but Blumhouse's INTO THE DARK series just gets worse with every single installment - "All That We Destroy" is so bland, lifeless and dull that it's a genuine endurance test to sit through. Stilted performances abound, but the actors are done no favors by cardboard, highly-expositional dialoge. The editing seems off as well - scenes play on for too long and awkwardly. Cinematography is flat and bland, and numerous scenes are shot against nearly colorless outdoor backgrounds. Most of the storyline seems to be filler (what's up with the dumb VR convos with Frank Whaley? Were they only able to get him for a day?) Repetition is the name of the game here. Wanna see the same actress killed over and over again in the exact same way? You'll get that here. And you'll want to kill yourself long before the credits roll.

It's thematically shallow as well, never going beyongd a gradeschooler's pondering of killer instinct. And the "twist ending" only comes as a surprise if you've never seen a film or television show before. This thing is incompetent across the board, and based on the low bar set, it's doubtful that INTO THE DARK will last much longer. Hard pass.
