Review of The Hand

The Hand (1965)
10/10
Marvelous Work

Warning: Spoilers
It is 2019 here in the US. Are we about to see the "hand" come into our lives more and more. In this wonderful, though gut wrenching, film, a ceramist who makes beautiful pots, opens his door, and in comes an enormous hand. The hand continually crushes the beginning of pots and insists that "hand" statues be made instead, images of oppression. At first there is resistance, an effort to do anything to make his art continue, but eventually he can resist no more. It is a startling picture of totalitarianism at its subtle worst.
