Cheesy, but fun

TWINS MISSION is a follow-up to THE TWINS EFFECT, a film I haven't yet watched, and it re-introduces Gillian Cheung and Charlene Choi as the crime-fighting twin duo; this time around, they're working as circus performers thanks to their athletic abilities. The plot features a complex back-story involving a mysterious organisation which recruits endless twins to carry out secret missions and the like. The main thrust of the plot is the usual MacGuffin about an ancient artefact that can be used for its healing properties; all of the characters, good and bad, are desperate to get their hands on it.

Let's face it, this is a film all about the action and it doesn't disappoint. There's plenty of it, augmented largely by wirework and stand-ins, but at least it doesn't go all-out on the CGI as do so many Hong Kong movies these days. The cast is decent, too, with Sammo Hung acting as friend and mentor to the great Wu Jing, who kicks absolute backside in a scene at the climax in which he battles a whole security team armed with batons. GEN-X COPS actor Sam Lee appears as a cop but best of all is Yuen Wah, still riding high from KUNG FU HUSTLE, playing a decent dual role and getting plenty of lines and fights to boot. The Twins themselves are a divisive presence and this is undoubtedly a cheesy viewing experience, but it's fun and amusing too which is the main thing.
