The first episode of Tin Star had a shock opening before going back one year.

Tim Roth is Jim Worth. A British detective, a recovering alcoholic who has relocated with his young family to the Canadian Rockies to become the police chief of the small town of Little Big Bear.

The town is feeling the impact of a proposed new oil refinery which will bring workers, environmental pollution and money to the town.

The fate of the Worth family and some of the executives of the refinery are intertwined.

I found the first episode rather slowly paced after the opening moments. It does the thing of setting up its stall with the characters in a remote mountain town. It limps when it should be galloping.

You sense that this could be dark and twisted like Twin Peaks but I did not feel it. More a third rate tribute act.
