Beware the Beast from Below
6 August 2019
A modern series of the Scooby Doo gang and a chance to play around with the formula. Thankfully no Scrappy Doo though.

The coastal town of Crystal Cove sees money in ghouls. It attracts tourists, so Velma telling visitors at Crystal Cove Haunted Museum that the exhibits such as Captain Cutler, Miner '49er, Charlie the Robot, Space Kook, The Phantom Shadow, and The Creeper are fakes does not go down well. These monsters are from the original Scooby Doo, Where Are You! so the series makes reference to its past.

We see the characters parents here who are not too keen on their offspring looking for mysteries to investigate. Daphne's parents are not keen on their daughter seeing Fred who seems more interested in creating elaborate traps to catch monsters.

When some green slime spreads through the town's underground trapping some sewer workers in a cocoon. Suspicion falls on new store owner Franklin Fruitmeir who is selling a popular green dessert and dresses up in a clown costume.

One thing to note that Velma and Shaggy are an item but Shaggy wants to keep the relationship secret from Scooby Doo.

There is a twist or two here when it comes to unmasking the villain as well as a continuing mystery that would weave throughout the series.

As always these pesky kids are not doing much for tourism as there is no supernatural basis to the mysteries. It is a much better incarnation of Scooby Doo and kids will enjoy it.
