Why is SNL only funny when they have great writers for guests??
6 October 2019
Obviously this is subjective, but it really seems like all the stand-out episodes in recent years have all been due to bringing on good writers as guests. Two of the best episodes of last season were John Mulaney and Adam Sandler, two SNL alumni who brought their own ideas to the team and had great results. Even though Phoebe Waller-Bridge has never written for SNL before, she's an incredible writer who also undoubtedly brought her own style to SNL. Most other episodes fall flat in comparison, over-relying on cheap political jokes, many of which don't land at all, and completely under-utilizing their actors. It's clear that the writing staff on the show needs to change... maybe Waller-Bridge can take over after she's done with Bond....
