I've ridden all my life, worked around cattle and enjoy watching the show but am finding fault with parts of it.
Contestant selection: The FIRST thing a "cowboy" (or cowgirl) needs to be able to do is mount a horse. It was embarrassing for everyone, seeing a contestant struggling so hard with that most basic riding element. It had to make a lot of viewers wonder how-in-the-world are people selected in the show?
The challenge of grabbing a tag off a bull's head was just stupid. Putting contestants in a position that dangerous showed pretty poor judgement on the part of the producers.
Host Trace Adkins has the look, the stature and the voice and he's 100% serious. But all that seriousness does take away from the show being "fun." I keep saying to the TV, "Hey Trace, lighten up a little."
At one elimination, Trace asked J Storme several times who she would eliminate and really pushed hard for an answer putting her in a very awkward and uncomfortable position. It just seemed unnecessary and made Trace look like a bully.
I don't think viewers will like the idea that one man makes the decision as to who goes home and who wins.
It's an interesting show and for the first go-round not bad. Hopefully if it's picked up for a second season, some of the bugs will be worked out. I hope so.
