Review of Pailwaan

Pailwaan (2019)
5/10
Two movies cramped into one which could have been better individually

Hats off to Sudeep and his efforts. He's trying to hold the movie single handed.

It's two movies into one. 1. A wrestler facing trouble from a oppressive King and in the end he faces him in the ring - a total mass masala entertainer . 2. A wrestler who goes into Boxing due to some circumstances and emerging as a victor - A good sports movie Unfortunately in Pailwaan, where the film makers tried to mix those two into one but they stand separately like oil and water. Things like Romance, Sentiment and Message comes out of nowhere, instead of making us feel, they make us wonder where the hell did that come from. Movie is filled with clichés picked up from late 80's to early 2000's movies which make is feel out dated and leading to a cliché filled cringe worthy climax. Instead of rooting for the hero, we will wonder when will this end. The training montage and the climax shows us it's trying hard to be ROCKY. Before entering an International Boxing Tournament, wouldn't the Hero be taking at least some practice matches? When he makes wrestling moves in International match felt like complete nonsense.

One line end sums up how the movie was. A reporter will ask the Mentor/Father "where is your son?"Seems the Media is not aware of who is entering on behalf of India in an International Wrestling Tournament even after he won an International Boxing Tournament.
