An Unfortunate Mix Between Romance and Propaganda
22 November 2019
The acting in this film is mediocre, the obvious dubbing-over of a large chunk of the audio is annoying, and the subtitles are full of mistakes, but I thoroughly disliked the blatant propaganda-driven storyline. The movie was full of demeaning footage of "Japanese" people, portraying them as comedic, un-empathetic killing-machines. There were gory scenes in the movie, where the Japanese soldiers were crushing babies, and fatally gassing mobs of people. In contrast to this, the Chinese soldiers are portrayed, usually, as great, good-mannered people, yet still able to mow down hundreds of Japanese soldiers single-handedly, and willing to sacrifice themselves for the better of their peers. The romance, just like some of the more "serious" scenes, was so bad, that it was, more often than not, laughable.

So bad, I could barely stop laughing.
