Fabulous.

Quite simply, this was an outstanding ninety minutes of drama. I actually preferred this to the first episode, which I in turn enjoyed enormously. The story was very deep and complex, but wonderfully engaging and rewarding.

It's a visual delight, it looks glorious, the setting of course is sublime, but the costumes and settings are magnificent, it's one of the most lavish dramas I've seen in some time, I say that after the disappointment of some like Vanity Fair and Sanditon, which haven't looked anywhere near this standard. Some very gritty scenes, and some moments of humour also. The best thing about this for me was the fact that it was exciting, finally a drama that's energetic and fun to watch.

I loved the theme of The Magic Flute, crime drama fans will I think, have a particular episode of Inspector Morse in mind, Masonic Mysteries, if you combined an episode of Sherlock at its peak with that Morse, this would be the result.

I'm hooked. 10/10
