Bringing back a beloved comedy after a break is always risky (just look at 'Only Fool's, that probably shouldn't have returned for that 00's Trilogy), so while most of the nation were willing 'Gavin and Stacey' to return, they were also dreading that it wouldn't be half as good.
Thankfully this is something rare - a Christmas Special that actually lives up to its billing.
While I didn't think the Sutcliffe storyline (brief though it was) added much, this was an episode with some lovely moments, all the old catchphrases, and not to mention a cliff-hanger ending that sets the scene up nicely for a return visit to Barry next Christmas...or in 10 years time, who knows??
