Star Trek: Picard: Remembrance (2020)
Season 1, Episode 1
4/10
The writing is the main problem

Picard is back....or is he? Is that actually the Picard we knew from TNG?

It appears that way when they make obvious references to the older movies and shows. But then again various aspects of past events are blatantly ignored which then brings me to the question => In which time line are we at the moment?

There is also various problems with the characters and dialogues. The conversations feel forced and VERY unnatural. They're jumping from A to D and then straight to M without giving any indication of how certain conclusions are made. The problem here is also that the pacing with them is very quick and doesn't really give you any opportunity to think about it. At the same time certain comments from characters are very cheesy and cringe worthy.

I will not give up on the show yet as I want to see where they are going with certain things and whether my suspicions will be confirmed - these being that the writers have no idea what they are doing or how to treat certain characters.

Btw. if the writers actually infantilize the "Romulan Star Empire" as it currently seems then this would seriously **** me off. Romulans in the past shows were always shown as a very strong faction that had to be treated carefully and taken serious. And they were supposed to be pretty smart guys going for schemes within schemes and so on. What has been shown in Star Trek Picard in the first episode seems to throw that away...
