a great artist, a troubled destiny
11 March 2020
The documentary brings to the attention of the music lovers the life and career of one of the great artists of the 20th century - Clara Haskil. The difficult path in life of the lonely Jewish woman from Eastern Europe who fought frail health and the political upheavals of her times is rendered with the help of documents, a few filmed sequences (Chaplin was a friend), and her letters to friends and family. The documentary is quite well made, although a few things deserved more details (one of the letters was addressed to Dinu Lipatti, another genius pianist from Romania - that at least was worth being mentioned). And more music - unfortunately there seems to be no filmed concers of her. Luckily we have many recordings left.
