A businessman Michael Tromp (Paul Freeman) and his teenage son are kidnapped. It seems the kidnappers were targeting the businessman but they were not expecting him to be with his son.
A large ransom is demanded. However the businessman's fortunes and insurance is not robust enough to meet the sum demand.
Van der Valk is perplexed as nothing about the kidnapping adds up. Tromp's associate Hensen (Stephen Moore) is tasked to go to the ransom drop.
Again this is a feature length mystery that feels too long although there is a plot to go with it. There are several twists as it is hinted that this could be an inside job.
Van der Valk shows his dogged side and he has a good rapport with his sidekick Inspector Rep (Ralph Brown.)
