It could be the new writers but something has just felt off ever since season 3. Dan Harmon has a tendency to slowly ruin the shows that he has created (community), and I think he's doing it now with Rick and Morty. It's a funny episode and creative but it doesn't hold a candle to anything in Season 1 or 2.
