Disturbing relationship with a touch of racism
11 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The woman is torn between her disturbing relationship with her boyfriend and between her job as a school teacher where she is often bullied by one of her students, a black boy of what appears to be mixed ethnicity. One the one hand, her boyfriend is jealous, insecure, possessive, and can be even physically aggressive. On the other hand, the mixed race black boy keeps making sexual passes at her inside the classroom which begin subtle at first then become more direct and clear until he explicitly insults her towards the end of the movie. Ida (the woman) has one friend, a fellow teacher who doesn't like her boyfriend, nor is she liked by him either, and she seems to be making her relationship with her boyfriend worse as she is always giving Ida advice that doesn't suit her over-possessive and jealous boyfriend. Interesting drama, but what is the reason for this racism? Why does the perverted boy in her classroom have to be black? Is this how Swedes view foreigners with darker skin? That they are impolite sexual perverts making passes at their teachers. Racist movie indeed.
