Season 1, Episode 1
9/10
Unexpectedly good start, Geoff Johns' writing and love for his creation shows how great it is

This is the pilot episode for Stargirl and its starts amazing with quality writing by the creator Geoff Johns. He helped create the character for DC comics with Lee Moder and now he serves as showrunner, producer and writer for this show that is streamed first on DC Universe and then on The CW. That's why the budget are so much higher and it shows. To be honest, by watching the trailers I didn't really think this TV show was going to be anything for me but I had hope that Geoff would make it good and I was rewarded in tuning in with a fantastic pilot episode that was directed by Glen Winter.

So what is Stargirl about? It's about Courtney Whitmore, who becomes the superhero Stargirl. This is her third live action appearance and probably the best. Smallville and Legends of Tomorrow was the first. By the premise and trailers, we know she'll be joining the Justice Society of America and that makes me hyped. The characters we get introduced to, heroes and villains are all interesting and likeable.

The lighthearted side of the show works perfectly, for example the humor doesn't feel forced but natural. They nailed the humor and jokes. Costume and prop department did some fine work. I didn't expect the special and visual effects would be good but they were great. I really liked how they handled the staff, some stunts felt a bit weird but I think it will be improved later on. The music fits perfectly with the show! It's an overall amazing pilot that made me wanting more. So far Pat is my favorite character, just so relatable and likeable. I recommend Stargirl. If you dislike high-school settings I have this to say, it isn't a focus. Courtney Whitmore is a good and believable character that is actually well performed by Brec Bassinger
