Review of Embodiment of Evil

I had heard of Coffin Joe but my introduction to him came in this, the third official movie in the series. And what an introduction it was! Joe is released from prison after serving 40 years for his horrific crimes and is met outside by his hunchback accomplice Bruno. Joe wastes no time into resuming his quest to find the perfect woman to bear his child, much blood, gore, torture and female nudity ensues. This movie is a non stop ride of horror imagery and violence, gore fans will enjoy that aspect. One thing that I didn't like was the violence against women, not in the torture porn scenes but in domestic situations, I found that poor taste. I don't speak Portuguese but some of the acting was obviously not of a high standard. Gore effects are good, a strong stomach is required. There is plenty of dark humour here and it looked at times like some of the cast were struggling to keep a straight face. A fairly decent gore/exploitation movie, a lot of black and white footage from the previous movies is included in Embodiment and I will certainly be watching these soon.
