I grew up watching Boy Meets World. While that show had its goofy, absurd moments, it was still firmly grounded in real world problems. That's what made the show great. That show's finale was a culmination of all of that. The cast saying goodbye to the world, and teacher, that taught them so much. It was a finale that, no matter how much you watch it, is still an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish.

Fast forward to the series finale of its successor, Girl Meets World. This last season was already disappointing, and clearly they stopped trying once they found out the show would end. And this finale, ironically, is a culmination of that mentality.

The whole finale is centered, just like BMW was, around saying goodbye. Topanga gets offered a job offer in London, which would mean her, Cory, Riley and Auggie would all have to say goodbye to their friends and loved ones in New York.

To the cast's credit, they try. There is a build up to that big goodbye. They even brought in every original BMW cast member they could get their hands on, including both Morgans. All of them are telling them it's a good thing they're going. It's the logical next step in their lives.

Riley and Lucas "kind of" break up, because of this goodbye. I say "kind of", since they were never really together in my eyes, since they barely even held hands since they said they'd be a couple. Riley and Maya even say goodbye, and this is heartbreaking to watch. Everything is leading up to that big final goodbye. Maybe a scene where Cory says goodbye to them, as their "Feeny", so to speak. That would've been a perfect finale, and a perfect nod to the original series' finale.

But no, all of a sudden, Topanga decides they don't go to London after all. So basically, the season finale is them saying... absolutely nothing happens, and we just end the show. This is literally how the episode ends.

Talk about anti-climactic.

The show in itself had some very touching moments, some very bad ones too, but all in all it was entertaining enough. This finale, however, is a slap in the face of everyone who watched both shows from start to finish.
