Pretty good, but not a favorite

Warning: Spoilers
After the third season ended on a high note, I was expecting a lot from the fourth. "Stab in the Dark"- the premiere of the season- is fortunately a solid "Death in Paradise", but there are aspects keeping it from great.

Let's start with good, shall we?

. The production values are great as usual. The direction is smooth with some atmospheric shots and the music fits the scenery. The acting's mostly enjoyable too. Don Gilet gives a solid performance and so does Natalie Gumede.

. The murder mystery is intriguing with many clever twists and turns. Most of the humor works. Especially liked the scene in which Camille and Goodman watch a horror flick.

But.....

. The solution, even though satisfying, is not the best the show has got to offer. I saw the twist( Andre was guilty after all) coming a mile away, because of the very obvious clue: " The man, who wasn't there" poem.

. Not all of the jokes work. Even though Kris Marshall is more comfortable in the role, his clumsiness is not as funny as Ben Miller's.

. There are also moments, where feels as if the characters were lucky and happened to be in the right place at the right time. Especially how the beach locker was found felt convenient.

Overall, solid, but not great episode.
