Clint Eastwood made a different kind of war movie, one which portrays the devastation of war. Most American war movies show Japanese soldiers as beastly beings, but the truth is they are humans too just like American soldiers.
The first half was a bit slow to set the foundation of different characters. The second half was brilliant accompanied with great acting by Ken Watanabe & other Japanese actors.
Some scenes really hit me hard in the gut, it's not just any war movie, it lies among one of the greats. I highly recommend this movie.
