Season Two Review

What an odd but wonderful season of television this second season of "Titans" is.

Taking up immediately where the first season ended, the remaining Titans are trapped outside of Trigon's (Seamus Dever) with just Gar (Ryan Potter) Rachael (Teagan Croft) and Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites) trapped inside. Once they deal with this issue, the announcement of the return of the Titan's brings them back onto the radar of their greatest foe, Slade Wilson (Esai Morales).

When I say that this season is odd, I mean in the sense that they blow off what should have been part of the finale of last season in the first half of the first episode and then set up a brand new villain (or three) to fight across this run and the season at large. I did actually stop the first episode at one point to go back and check that I hadn't somehow missed this episode last time. Once that was out the way though, there was a really enjoyable season of Superhero TV. Split across a couple of different time frames, the show shows us the original Titans crossing paths with Deathstroke with disastrous consequences five years previously. This explains his desire for revenge on the reformed Titans in the present day stuff. There is also another plot strand with Cadmus, Lex Luther's scientific military company and what I initially thought might be another backdoor pilot (like Doom Patrol in the first season) with the introduction of Conner and Krypto - although they end up joining the Titans outright.

I would say, it was a little disappointing to see all the Titans go their separate ways so quickly and for the length of the run in a lot of cases, rather than seeing them operate as a team for any considered amount of time. But overall I really enjoyed the series. It's self referentially funny, the action scenes are good and Deathstroke was a wonderful villain for them to go up against.

Looking forward to the third season.
