Review of Ghoomketu

Ghoomketu (2020)
5/10
A Handful of Funny Scenes and That's It / 5 Stars
1 July 2020
I have to admit I chuckled quite a few times at some of the distant jokes scattered across Ghoomketu (given mythological name; vagabond), which narrates the previously heard story of an aspiring writer (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) who goes to Mumbai to try his luck in Bollywood. There are also many quirky elements in the comedy drama - montages of side arcs, Anurag Kashyap's callous cop character, dysfunctional family setting, practice of stealing dialogues and stories in cinema, and observational comedy. But as a singular film, Ghoomketu never rises to the comedy package that it aspires to be.

Even the electrically funny performances by Ila Arun, Siddiqui, and Raghubir Yadav do not help the film stand out. And it ends up as one of those whose select scenes can be watched on YouTube for an afternoon laugh or two, if Zee manages to upload them that is. TN.

(Watched on Zee5.)
