Review of Little Joe

Little Joe (2019)
7/10
Wasn't going to review this, but I feel I have my two cents to contribute

I am very surprised to see all the negative reviews here. I actually think it's quite a clever little movie. People complaining that it's hardly scary or creepy just miss the point: this is not supposed to be a classic horror movie with lots of gore and scream queens. I see it as more of a reflection on how the genetic engineering can affect our lives and feelings on various levels: physically, psychologically, even mentally. Will we be able to recognize the enemy when it's at our door or will we be too busy sorting ourselves out? The script does a great job providing arguments for one side and then, as soon as we think we're sure of what's really going on, for the other.

All the performances are great including the brilliant Ben Whishaw and the young actor playing Joe. I also quite liked the score (the thing that seemed to have disappointed most of the reviewers), I think it fits the visuals and the tone of the movie perfectly. Loved the ending, as well. Overall, with possible flaws, I think it's a kind of film that makes you think. Not bad at all.
