Amazing portrayal of women fighting for justice
27 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
They are brutally attacked on a beach while camping. Three men help themselves to hours of torture and return home to their lives laughing as if nothing had happened. The girls have the guts and intelligence to speak up, report the crimes to Police and file charges. The men are arrested after one of them admits involvement. Their pleas of not guilty and well paid lawyers sets them free almost immediately. They are « free » for 4 years, while the young women suffer; emotionally, physically (one ends up pregnant). They also suffer professionally (one is a Teacher who has to fight still more to keep her position). They are ridiculed. As their battle with the courts continue, family and friends tell them to just drop it, to get on with their lives! The fact that they are admitted lesbians contributes to the public scandal. Finally a strong Attorney takes their case to higher courts. By then it is a National story, they are followed by press, angry hostile men, and supportive women helping to boost their confidence to continue their battle for justice! This is a true story, whose court decision ends with changing the legal definition of « rape » throughout France! Parts are difficult to watch, but the portraits of these two women are well done by the actresses!
