Warning: Spoilers
"The title 'Corridors Of Blood' suggests this film is going to be a fright fest but it is a medical drama concerning a man trying to produce an anaesthetic to prevent pain during surgery. The film doesn't shy away from the reality of operations without pain relief but the main thrust is Dr. Bolton's research and how self experimentation has an adverse effect on him. It's an absorbing film.

Boris Karloff plays Dr. Bolton and he is superb, one of his best performances in a long career. He faces the disapproval of his peers, the ignorance of his family and falls prey to some villainous types but determinedly carries on. Recognition does come but sadly only after he dies. A good cast support him including a sinister Christopher Lee as Resurrection Joe and a shady couple Black Ben and Rachel, played perfectly by Francis De Wolff and Adrienne Corri, The interior and exterior sets look atmospheric, the cinematography by the reliable Geoffrey Faithfull is ideal and director Robert Day does a fine job keeping the film going at just the right pace.

Boris Karloff was no Sir Laurence Olivier but he could some things even better than that theatrical knight. The role of Dr. Bolton fits him like a glove.
