This episode holds a lot of re-watch value. Not only does it reveal a lot, but still leave a lot of room for watchers to come back for more. This pilot episode starts with Derek and Meredith after their one-night stand. Then later on shows the intense atmosphere for surgical interns in their first day at Seattle Grace Hospital. Characters such as Christina, George, Izzie, and Alex are also introduced during this episode.
Throughout this episode, there were very good hospital cases dealt with that challenged the interns, residents, and attendings that made this episode feel like a roller coaster.
Twists such as Derek being Meredith's boss in the hospital; Ellis Grey, Meredith's mother, the legendary surgeon revealed to have Alzheimer's disease... gave a nice pull factor during the first episode of a series.
