'Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds (2017)' is an expansion to the main game that introduces a new part of the map, several new machines and allows interaction with the otherwise only mentioned Banuk tribe. It works both as a stand-alone adventure and as a sort of detour within the main narrative of the base game. In fact, I'd argue that it actually makes the original narrative even better thanks to its exploration of some interesting aspects of world design. It also gives you a little more insight into the enigmatic Sylens character. It's a great experience, one that strikes a perfect balance between 'more of the same' and 'something a little different'. The gameplay is as good as it's ever been here, with the new machines and icy environment only adding an extra layer of depth. Overall, it's a satisfying side-story that can be enjoyed either during or after the main game (although it canonically takes place before the main game's ending). 9/10
