It's Alright

After the events of the first two films, Carol Ann is sent to live with her aunt and uncle in a high rise Chicago skyscraper, but the evil Reverend Kane still isn't finished with her and finds a way to get to her through mirrors.

Poltergeist III loses something without the support of Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams, but Nancy Allen and Tom Skeritt as Carol Ann's aunt and uncle do their best with underwritten roles. Also missed is Jerry Goldsmith's sweeping orchestral work. Joe Renzetti's sparse, cold electronic music can be effective at times, but doesn't fit in with the rest of the series.

The special effects are more practical than optical this time and they're very impressive even if they're in service of a less than fully cooked screenplay that simply has characters running around, screaming the main character's name for 3/4ths of the run time. It can get annoying after awhile, but if you unplug your mind and just go along for the ride, you'll find some of the set pieces pretty enjoyable.
