Many movies which have long been in the making due to any reason have normally failed at the box office in addition to disappointing critics. This movie can be added to the list. A simple plot of an ambitious young man from hinterland wanting to make it in the big bad city could have made a fine movie, with the correct scripting and direction. This film however grossly lacks merit due to the pedestrian treatment given to it with the result it is neither comedy nor drama , and at best it remains a half hearted attempt. There is an attempt at satire by showing how scripting is done for the different genres like romance, comedy, horror etc but the results fall flat. Nawazuddin runs away from home to go to Mumbai to write for films leaving behind his young wife, father, mother, uncle etc. They file a complaint with the police. Finally after some misadventures, Nawazuddin comes home and everyone is happy. The direction is slipshod. The acting just passable. Redeeming feature is acting of Ila Arun, who makes the proceedings interesting. Rajendra Yadav overreacts. Did he have to scream so much ? Anuraag Kashyap as the policeman does not impress. It would have better if he had concentrated on the scripting/ direction instead of acting. A disappointing film on the whole.
